GOP Sends Out Controversial Obama Image

A Virginia county GOP committee used an image of President Obama with a bullet through his head to make a Halloween joke.

An email sent by the Loudoun County GOP that included an image of Obama as a zombie has been widely criticized by Democrats and Republicans alike.  “We are going to vanquish the zombies with clear thinking conservative principles and a truckload of Republican candy,” says the email, which served as an invitation to a Halloween parade.

The image of the President was created from a copyrighted AP photo of Obama in 2006.

The apology:

“The Loudoun County Republican Committee yesterday sent an email to its members that represented a light-hearted attempt to inject satire humor into the Halloween holiday,” Sell says in a statement. “Apparently, some individuals have interpreted an image of Barack Obama that appeared within the email as intending to portray the president as a victim of a violent crime. Nothing could be further from the truth, and we deeply and sincerely apologize to the president and anyone who viewed the image if that was the impression that was left. The LCRC deplores any effort to display, suggest or promote violence against the president or any other political figure.”

President Obama Speaks at MLK Memorial [VIDEO]

Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom.    Martin Luther King, Jr.

Thousands gathered to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.   “A day not to be denied,” began President Obama after his introduction.  This project took 15 years and millions of dollars to erect.  It was delayed because of Hurricane Irene.

“Let us draw strength from those earlier struggles,” Obama said. “Change has never been simple or without controversy.”

Top Five Disrespectful Comments Towards President Obama

President Barack Obama took the  presidency in 2008.  Breaking the glass ceiling and disrupting years and years of racial biases and prejudices in the voting process doesn’t come easy and/or void of backlash.  The amount of disrespect shown to president Obama is beyond politics.  You can disagree with the president while respecting the position.  I have compiled my top 5 disrespectful moments towards President Obama since 2008.

5.  Hank Williams, Jr. compares Obama to Hitler: On October 3, 2011, Hank Williams, Jr. compared this summer’s so-called golf summit between Obama and House Speaker John Boehner as “one of the biggest political mistakes ever.”  He continued with, “It would be like Hitler playing golf with (Israeli leader) Benjamin Netanyahu.”

4.  Pat Buchmann referred to President Obama as “boy”:  During a conversation with Rev. Al Sharpton, on MSNBC, Buchmann said that Sharpton’s “boy” Obama got “whipped” by Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell. Stunned, Sharpton responded with, “he’s nobody’s boy — he’s your president.”

3.  Congressman Doug Lamborn compares President Obama to a “tar baby”:  Rep. Doug Lamborn said, “now I don’t want to even have to be associated with him. It’s like touching a tar baby and you get, you get it, you know… you are stuck and you are part of the problem now and you can’t get away.”  The term “tar baby” is a reference to 19th-century Uncle Remus stories about Br’er Rabbit but has taken on a negative connotation towards African-Americans.

2.  Joe Wilson yelled out “you lie” during a speech:  Joe Wilson interrupted President Obama’s 2009 Health Care speech with “you lie” when President Obama said the legislation would not mandate coverage for undocumented immigrants. Watch the video.

1.  John Boehner rejects President Obama’s date and time for speech:  In a surreal volley of letters, each released to the news media as soon as it was sent, Mr. Boehner rejected a request from the president to address a joint session of Congress next Wednesday at 8 p.m. — the same night that a Republican GOP Debate is scheduled.  In an extraordinary turn, the House speaker fired back his own letter to the president saying, in a word, no.

Of course there are numerous moments that are just as disrespectful (i.e. Newt Gingrich calling President Obama “the food stamp president”).  The disrespect shown to the president over the years isn’t politics opposition.  It isn’t a matter of bipartisan this or tea party that.  No other president would be referred to as a “tar baby” or your “boy”.  It just doesn’t happen, whether it is intentional or not.  Given the history of this country, racial colloquialisms shouldn’t be taken lightly and should be heard with a critical ear.

ESPN Drops Hank Williams, Jr. For Comparing Obama To Hitler

ESPN: “While Hank Williams, Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to Monday Night Football. We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight’s telecast.”

Country singer, Hank Williams, Jr., will no longer open up tonight’s Monday Night Football due to his controversial statements about President Obama. He compared this summer’s so-called golf summit between Obama and House Speaker John Boehner as “one of the biggest political mistakes ever.”  He continued with, “It would be like Hitler playing golf with (Israeli leader) Benjamin Netanyahu.”
